
The first lady of France, Carla Bruni, declined Tuesday to answer questions from journalists about the pregnancy rumors, the same day that the father of French President Nicolas Sarkozy confirmed that she was pregnant with the German newspaper Bild.

The reporters asked her about her pregnancy when she arrived accompanied by the actor Gérard Depardieu to an act of the foundation against illiteracy, which she chairs.

The wife of former French President Jacques Chirac, Bernadette, who was present at the time, told the press that it is not often a baby's arrival to the Elysee Palace.
"Carla had told me of his desire for some time. This is a story very, very good reason for complete happiness," he said.
